Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) Expands Single Sales Tax Return to E&P and Microfinance Banks

In a major step towards streamlining tax compliance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and all Provincial Revenue Authorities—including Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA), Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), and Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA)—have unanimously agreed to extend the scope of Single Sales Tax Return (SSTR) to two additional sectors: Exploration & Production (E&P) companies in the Oil & Gas industry and Microfinance Banks.

What This Means for Taxpayers

From November 2024, taxpayers registered in these two sectors will be required to file their sales tax returns via the Single Sales Tax Return system. This move is aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing administrative burdens, and simplifying tax compliance for businesses operating in these industries.

Key Benefits of the Single Sales Tax Return (SSTR) System

  • Ease of Filing: Taxpayers can now submit a single return instead of multiple filings across different tax authorities.
  • Time & Cost Savings: Reduces paperwork, minimizes delays, and ensures a smooth tax process.
  • Transparency & Compliance: Encourages better compliance with tax regulations, reducing risks of errors and inconsistencies.
  • Digital Accessibility: Taxpayers can file their sales tax returns through the online Single Portal: www.iris.fbr.gov.pk, making the process more convenient.

A Step Towards a More Efficient Tax System

This initiative is a significant milestone in Pakistan’s tax reforms, promoting a business-friendly environment and ensuring smoother tax collection mechanisms across various industries. It reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing tax administration and facilitating businesses with a simplified, digitalized tax framework.
